Rock, paper… (success isn’t as random as you think)

How about a quick game of Rock Paper Scissors?

(Seriously, let's do this. Don't overthink it, just pick one).

OK, throw your chosen hand on three:

1…

2…

3….

Shoot!

Which did you pick?

Was it Rock? If so, you'd be in good company:

Most people pick Rock as their first move. (I picked Scissors. Let me know if you beat me this round…)

(Another tip: people rarely throw the same gesture three times in a row–so if the person you're playing has thrown Paper twice, expect them to switch on the next round).

How do I have the competitive edge on this game that some call Rochambeau

It turns out that some things that seem random have foreseeable patterns.*

(In short: humans are much more predictable than we think).

I see it all the time in the world of business:

Business leaders and entrepreneurs get overwhelmed with all the options and advice for promoting their services, packaging offers & products, and focusing their attention and energy.

This is when I hear business owners throw up their hands and say things like:

“I'll just hope for the best.”

“Let me see if I can pull this off."

“Maybe I'll magically get some clients.”  [This last one drives me crazy].

It's like leaving their results to a Rock, Paper Scissors game.

But here's the thing:

Just because business feels unpredictable doesn't mean you're powerless.

You can learn to read the game.

That is, strategy works a lot better when you can see the patterns

That's why I love coaching. I get to use my 24+ years as a therapist (studying human behavior), and my 10+ years in the business world (many thousands of hours learning & reading & coaching) to help leaders & entrepreneurs know where to focus their efforts for the most impactful results

I bet you like using your expertise to see the Big Picture for your clients too, right? –It's so fun to know the strategies and secrets & insights you'll teach them (or the impact your work will have on them).

I'm happy to keep teaching you some of my favorite tips & insights in these posts. I love this stuff.

–But if you'd like to learn how having a coach can help you zoom out, notice what's actually happening, and choose more effective moves for your work,

Let's talk.

To your success,

p.p.s. *I got the RPS tips from the World Rock Paper Scissors Association (yes, it's real!), which compiles statistics & strategies, hosts tournaments, and is even trying to make RPS an Olympic sport. (Maybe you've got a shot at a Gold Medal). There's a business for everything…
